Last week marked the second birthday of our EV. Over the past nine months, charging at home has been optimised to take advantage of high renewable, low price periods thanks to wholesale price exposure with Amber Electric.
I’ve been keeping track of the monthly cost of charging from the grid and how this compares to the EV specific tariff offered by my previous retailer.
As seen below, a significant saving was achieved in all months except January, with a overall volume weighted average price of just 5.5c/kWh.
This demonstrates the huge opportunity not just for optimised EV charging but also the substantial savings that can be made in any household through time shifting major loads (hot water heating, pool pumps, dishwashers etc).
