Volkswagen has initiated a second recall and cease sale order for its spacious electrical minivan, which options three rows of seats. Whereas the third row has obtained optimistic suggestions for its width and luxury, new paperwork filed with the Nationwide Freeway Visitors Security Administration (NHTSA) reveal that it doesn’t adjust to seatbelt laws.

The problem lies in the truth that the rear third row can accommodate three passengers however is supplied with solely two seatbelts. This example violates Federal Motor Car Security Customary No. 208, which pertains to crash safety measures. The issue was recognized in mid-February by Faurecia Autositze GmbH, a provider for Volkswagen, which promptly reported the findings. An exterior testing program was initiated in March, with outcomes confirming in April that the rear seat of the LWB ID Buzz requires three seatbelts.

In response, Volkswagen plans to retrofit the ID Buzz by putting in mounted unpadded trim components to scale back the seating floor, making certain compliance with laws. Moreover, unsold ID Buzz autos can’t be bought till the problem is resolved. This marks the second ‘cease sale’ directive for the ID Buzz within the U.S. inside a month, the primary being because of the absence of the phrase ‘brake’ on the dashboard gauge’s brake icon.

It is essential to notice that within the U.S., Volkswagen solely provides the ID Buzz with an extended wheelbase, accommodating six or seven passengers with configurations of three rows, whereas in Europe and different areas, the shorter wheelbase variant consists of 5 seats as normal. Consequently, European fashions is not going to be impacted by this U.S. requirement.
