Cheapest Lucid Air Recalled Because The Drive Motor Wiring Harness Is Too Short

Lucid Motors is recalling sure 2024 and 2025 Air Pure EVs.
The affected EVs have a rear drive motor wiring harness that is too brief. This may result in a lack of energy.
The Lucid Air Pure begins at $71,400. It is rear-wheel drive solely and has an EPA-estimated vary of 420 miles.

Over 1,500 Lucid Air Pure electrical sedans are being recalled by the California-based automaker as a result of they had been fitted with a rear drive motor subframe wiring harness that’s shorter than the unique design.

This might trigger extra stress on the harness connector, which in flip can result in lowered or full lack of energy from the rear-mounted motor. The Lucid Air Pure is the entry-level model of the four-door sedan and is powered by a single, rear-mounted drive unit.

Sure 2024 and 2025 model-year items are affected by the recall. In whole, 1,539 U.S.-market autos are a part of the recall. If one thing goes incorrect due to the shortened harness, house owners may even see one the next warning messages: Drive System Warning, Contact Buyer Care; Drive System Fault, Contact Buyer Care; Drive System Fault, car powering down in 2 minutes; Driving Energy Decreased, Automobile will be pushed however efficiency could also be restricted; brake System Fault; Drive with warning and call Buyer Care instantly; Regenerative Braking quickly Decreased; Computerized Automobile Maintain Fault, Use brake pedal to carry car and call Buyer Care.

In addition to a number of of those messages, drivers may encounter a lack of energy.

Lucid stated the unique rear drive unit subframe wiring harness size design was “inadvertently shortened.” A documentation change resulted within the firm ordering the incorrect size wiring harnesses, the corporate stated within the recall report revealed by the Nationwide Freeway Visitors Security Administration (NHTSA).

The affected autos had been assembled between November 29, 2023, and October 17, 2024. Lucid Motors began investigating the difficulty in June and recognized seven cases the place Air Pure EVs encountered a lack of energy as a result of shortened wiring harness.

To repair the issue, Lucid will change the wiring harnesses of all affected autos at no cost.
