The cooperation between Lime and Cyclic Supplies focuses on recovering uncommon earth magnets from e-bikes and e-scooters, a useful resource that has beforehand been neglected in recycling efforts. The demand for these magnets, notably neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB), has surged because of the rise of electromobility. Nevertheless, fewer than one % of those magnets are at the moment recycled globally. Analysis by Adamas Intelligence means that over 43,000 tonnes of previous materials may act as an ‘above-ground mine’ within the USA by 2035.

This initiative marks a pioneering effort in North America, as Cyclic makes use of its proprietary MagCycle and REEPure applied sciences to effectively extract magnets from end-of-life electrical motors, reintroducing the uncommon earths into the uncooked materials cycle. Ahmad Ghahreman, CEO of Cyclic Supplies, highlighted the importance of this partnership, stating it units a powerful instance of how progressive firms can shut vital loops within the clear power provide chain by means of the recycling of everlasting magnets important for contemporary mobility. Cyclic, backed by buyers together with BMW and JLR, operates an illustration plant in Kingston, Canada, and is growing a recycling facility in Mesa, Arizona.

Beneath this collaboration, Lime will present motors from its decommissioned e-bikes and scooters from each Canada and the USA. With a fleet of over 270,000 electrical two-wheelers globally, Lime is a key participant in city low-emission mobility. Since 2019, the corporate has managed to cut back its CO₂ emissions by almost 60 % and is striving for carbon neutrality by 2030.

Andrew Savage, Lime’s Head of Sustainability, views the partnership with Cyclic Supplies as a logical development. He said, “Circularity is a core a part of our sustainability mission. Collaborating with Cyclic Supplies permits us to take important steps towards enhancing the restoration of processed supplies for reuse within the provide chain.” Lime plans to start delivering electrical motors for recycling to Cyclic Supplies within the coming weeks, with ambitions to broaden its initiatives into 2025.

In April 2025, Lime additionally introduced one other recycling partnership with Redwood Supplies, a US firm based by former Tesla government JB Straubel. This collaboration goals to recuperate very important uncooked supplies like lithium, nickel, and cobalt from lithium-ion batteries in Lime’s e-bikes and scooters, permitting the recovered supplies to be reused in new batteries. Lime and Redwood are working collectively to determine a round provide chain for batteries within the USA, Germany, and the Netherlands. Via these partnerships, Lime is taking important steps in direction of recycling vital assets utilized in its automobiles.
