Kia has introduced updates regarding its implementation of the Tesla North American Charging Customary (NACS) adapters and entry to the Tesla Supercharger community. Prospects who take supply of a 2024 or 2025 Kia EV9 or a 2024 Kia EV6 after September 4, 2024, will obtain a complimentary NACS adapter. Nevertheless, those that acquired their EVs earlier than this date, together with earlier EV6 and EV9 house owners, together with all Kia Niro EV house owners, might want to buy their adapters at an as-yet undisclosed worth.

The automaker plans to begin delivery adapters in early 2025, with entry to Tesla’s Supercharger community anticipated to open by the top of the primary quarter. Initially, Kia had aimed to offer this entry beginning January 15, however the timeline has since been revised. Whereas Kia didn’t explicitly point out Tesla or Superchargers in its communication, it promised that prospects would be capable of cost at “greater than 16,500 NACS DC quick chargers within the U.S.,” a determine compiled by the Vitality Division’s Various Gas Knowledge Heart.

Many main automobile producers are shifting towards adopting NACS cost ports, however few have dedicated to offering adapters and Supercharger entry. Normal Motors stands out for making all prospects pay for his or her adapters, whereas Kia’s strategy is extra restrictive than Ford’s, which initially provided one free adapter per car to all EV prospects.

Not like most different automakers, Kia has not prominently featured Tesla in its bulletins. The model is a participant within the Ionna North American fast-charging community, which has expressed help for each NACS and CCS requirements. This means that Kia could be shifting focus towards NACS connectors exterior of the Supercharger community, seemingly in anticipation of Ionna’s enlargement.

Moreover, Kia, together with its sister manufacturers Hyundai and Genesis, has confirmed its help for NACS. Hyundai has began manufacturing Ioniq 5 EVs with Tesla-compatible NACS ports, however Kia has but to offer a timeline for integrating NACS ports into its personal automobiles.

This report has been up to date to replicate the revised timeline for Kia EV entry to Tesla’s Supercharger community as of January 15.
