Hyundai, Kia and Genesis recalled 200,000 EVs as a result of a defective 12-volt battery charging system.
The problem may trigger affected automobiles to lose energy whereas driving, making a doubtlessly harmful scenario.
It impacts the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6; Kia EV and Genesis Electrified G80, Electrified GV70 and GV60.

Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are recalling over 200,000 EVs over a problem that might trigger them to instantly lose energy, in accordance with notices filed with the Nationwide Freeway Visitors Security Administration. Reuters was the primary to report the information of the Hyundai recall, however InsideEVs has confirmed it impacts some Kias, too.

The recall covers 145,234 Hyundai and Genesis EVs, together with 62,872 Kia EV6s. The lined automobiles have a problem with their Built-in Charging Management Models (ICCUs), which is chargeable for charging the low-voltage 12-volt battery utilizing energy from the high-voltage system. The ICCU is a standard failure level on Hyundai, Genesis and Kia EVs on the E-GMP platform, and if it fails it will cease charging the 12-volt battery. The 12-volt going flat can result in a lack of drive energy, inflicting the automotive to instantly lose energy and pace. Right here is the complete record of affected automobiles:

Homeowners have reported dropping energy on the freeway, ensuing within the automotive instantly dropping far beneath freeway speeds earlier than stopping solely.

“I used to be driving on the freeway and a message appeared that mentioned ‘test electrical system.’ The ability within the automotive then fully bottomed out and I couldn’t go above 25 mph,” one 2024 Ioniq 5 AWD proprietor reported in a public remark to NHTSA.

A month later, the company opened an analogous probe over the problem within the 2022 Kia EV6. Many EV6s and Ioniq 5s had been already recalled over this challenge, however apparently the repair did not work. So Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are recalling all beforehand affected automobiles, plus further ones not topic to the sooner recall.

In the event you personal one of many affected automobiles, your supplier will test your ICCU and its fuse, changing each if vital. The supplier may also replace the ICCU’s software program.
