India allocates over 200 million euros for charging infrastructure
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) is about to determine roughly 72,000 public charging stations throughout the nation below its PM E-Drive scheme. These stations shall be strategically positioned alongside 50 nationwide freeway corridors, facilitating longer journey distances for electrical automobiles, buses, and business autos.

MHI goals to find these charging stations in high-traffic areas, equivalent to gas stations, railway stations, airports, toll plazas, and state highways. To streamline the method, the ministry is contemplating entrusting Bharat Heavy Electricals Restricted (BHEL), a government-owned engineering and manufacturing agency targeted on power and industrial infrastructure, with the duty of aggregating demand for the brand new charging stations.

BHEL might also play a key position in growing a unified software that can present clients with easy accessibility to public chargers. This app is anticipated to allow customers to examine charger availability, e book charging slots, make funds, and monitor charging progress.

Collaboration is crucial for the success of this initiative. MHI is working intently with the Ministry of Petroleum and Pure Fuel and the Ministry of Street Transport and Highways to implement the EV charging infrastructure below the PM E-Drive scheme. H.D. Kumaraswamy, the Union Minister for the Ministry of Heavy Industries, emphasised the significance of cooperative efforts, stating, “The clear power transition can not reach silos. Ministries, public sector enterprises, and states are all aligned to ship outcomes on the bottom.”

The PM E-Drive scheme is designed to supply incentives amounting to 109 billion rupees (roughly 1.12 billion euros) from October 2024 to March 2026. Alongside establishing round 72,000 public chargers, the initiative will assist 2,881,436 electrical autos, which embody two-wheelers, three-wheelers, ambulances, and vehicles, in addition to improve testing companies.
