Bridgestone’s latest tires have 55% recycled and renewable materials
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Bridgestone has begun producing a tire composed of 55% recycled and renewable supplies, particularly designed for the Audi E-Tron GT, the corporate’s flagship efficiency electrical automobile.

This tire is an adaptation of the Bridgestone Potenza Sport summer time efficiency tire, modified for the E-Tron GT. Bridgestone has introduced that the tire has acquired an Worldwide Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) as a consequence of its sustainable materials composition.

The tire contains a composition of 35% renewable supplies, together with pure rubber and bio-attributed polymers, and 20% recycled supplies, similar to floor rubber and carbon black derived from used tires, in addition to rice husks and silica ash. Moreover, will probably be manufactured in a plant in Rome powered by renewable power.

Bridgestone has set a goal to realize carbon neutrality and make the most of 100% sustainable supplies in its tires by 2050. Beforehand, the corporate produced small portions of IndyCar race tires utilizing pure rubber sourced from guayule, a plant native to the American Southwest. Nonetheless, this tire represents step one in Bridgestone’s sustainability initiative for mass-produced highway automobile tires.

The give attention to sustainability is critical, particularly because the absence of “tailpipe” emissions in electrical autos (EVs) shifts consideration to the emissions generated in the course of the manufacturing of tires and different parts, contributing to the general carbon footprint of EVs. This has prompted different tire producers and automakers, similar to Michelin and Hyundai, to discover extra environmentally pleasant tire options for electrical autos.

In 2022, Goodyear launched a prototype tire created from 70% sustainable supplies, although it was not out there for business sale. The next 12 months, they unveiled environmentally pleasant tires for the Tesla Mannequin 3, incorporating carbon black produced with out fossil gas combustion.
